Green Party
In a climate where greed and selfish interests all too often dominate, the Green Party works for a sustainable world and better quality of life for all. This was acknowledged when Green Party Leader Caroline Lucas, MEP for South East England, won the Guardian Newspaper 'Ethical Politician of the Year 2009' Award. European Elections are very important as so many of the key issues of our time have global reach and implications.
Economy
We would introduce a 'Green New Deal' creating thousands of jobs in sustainable industries to tackle unemployment and climate change together. By getting rid of benefit traps and aggressive means-testing we can make it easier for young people to move into employment so they can build a future for themselves.
Environment
Pollution and climate change are very real and we are the only party with serious and principled policies promoting a greener world. We oppose nuclear power and fossil fuels and are in favour of renewable energy such a wind and water power.
Education
People have different learning styles and we believe in a system that helps everyone develop social skills as well as gaining knowledge. We would reduce class sizes so kids don't leave school unable to read or write and focus more on individuals needs and less on testing. We would abolish university fees and reintroduce grants for higher education students.
Crime
Young people should not all be discriminated against because of the actions of a minority. Our approach to youth crime goes hand in hand with those on education, social care, health, economics and housing, promoting a positive environment for youth.
Culture, Media and Sports
Young people don't always get a say in decisions that affect them and need facilities so they don't need to be on the street. We favour local access for young people to resources, spaces and decision making on these issues so they can play a part in shaping their local area.
We also advocate lowering the voting age in all elections to 16 in order to give more young people power to influence change!
