The Mock Election by Dannii C

Dannii C, from Kings High School in Warwick tells us all about her Y Vote Mock Election.

So what did you do?
I participated in a mock general election at my school, even though I was against sixth formers. I won and helped people care about politics more. I made my schoolmates care about politics, and showed them that no matter what your party is, with the right campaign, you can win.

What are you most proud of?
The fact that I won against sixth formers! It was such a rush.

The full story:
There was a mock general election at my school. I am 13 but I thought, what the hell, I like politics so I’ll enter. Then I saw that my competition included 19-year-olds and I thought, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!!

I was the only one to create my own party (with the help of my friends) called TRP, the Revolutionary Party. I wrote my own manifesto, unlike the others, and me and my friends made leaflets and posters. We did speeches and went round classes.

I hoped we had won, because we had easily worked the hardest. In the results assembly, I saw that Monster Raving Loony had 25% of the vote. My heart sank-“they’ll have won for sure”. Later, though, I saw that we had 26% of the vote, so WE WON!

It was brilliant and my parents were really proud, and we were really happy. But most of all, we inspired some of our classmates to care about politics, and we taught them that you can come from nothing and win.

The Mock Elections team would like to congratulate Dannii on her hard work - perhaps you’ll be on your way to Downing Street one day!
